The latest in plant care tips for keeping your foliage happy and healthy, brought to you by premium plant delivery service Léon & George.

Vacation season is almost here, but what’s exciting for us may be worrisome for our leafy roommates. Luckily, plants are resilient and can survive in your absence with a tiny bit of prep. The key is to help your plant retain its moisture for the duration of your trip.

  • Water your plants thoroughly the night before you leave, soaking the soil and allowing the water to drain completely

  • Group your potted plants together in an area that is more shaded than usual

  • Avoid fertilizing in the days leading up to your departure - slow any growth as much as possible to reduce how fast your plant is drinking

For vacations 2 weeks or longer:

  • Ask a friend to check in on your plants

  • Keep moisture in by topping the soil with a natural material like moss, wood chips or pebbles

  • Cover your plant with a plastic bag poked with breathing holes and keep the plastic off the foliage using sticks
