Plant Care Tip #12: Vacation Prep
The latest in plant care tips for keeping your foliage happy and healthy, brought to you by premium plant delivery service Léon & George.
Vacation season is almost here, but what’s exciting for us may be worrisome for our leafy roommates. Luckily, plants are resilient and can survive in your absence with a tiny bit of prep. The key is to help your plant retain its moisture for the duration of your trip.
Water your plants thoroughly the night before you leave, soaking the soil and allowing the water to drain completely
Group your potted plants together in an area that is more shaded than usual
Avoid fertilizing in the days leading up to your departure - slow any growth as much as possible to reduce how fast your plant is drinking
For vacations 2 weeks or longer:
Ask a friend to check in on your plants
Keep moisture in by topping the soil with a natural material like moss, wood chips or pebbles
Cover your plant with a plastic bag poked with breathing holes and keep the plastic off the foliage using sticks
